JASON BROOKS PLAYS WITH A NEW ILLUSTRATION TECHNIQUE, WHICH HE CALLS HIS SHADOW CUTOUTS.
The glamorous world of Jason Brooks, along with his adaptable technique and sense of style, make him the perfect collaborator for luxury brands looking for refreshing, sexy and elegant illustrations.
In his latest series of Shadow Cutout illustrations we experience the added graphic nature of his work.
“I’m very interested in exploring new ground with art and fashion illustration. The cutouts idea really evolved from wanting to play with the picture plane of the screens we are so used to looking at, to give a new feeling of depth. I love the way the illusion of space is created on stage in theatre sets, and I’ve always been interested in paper collage and paper cut outs.”
“The whole cut out concept is also something that I think works better with the kind of flat colour you can achieve with illustration and paper collage rather than photography. So, this felt like a really exciting new area of imagery to explore, somewhere on the border of 2D and 3D. Some of these new images are created physically with paper and scissors, others are created digitally—so I am also inspired by this mix of traditional and modern.” — Jason Brooks
