Catching up with Traffic

As we see the hazey days of summer behind us, we welcome our old friend Fall! So as the birds fly south, it’s a good moment to share what we’ve been up to. Below we have limited it to 5 news items—projects and exhibitions for our talented artists to design and branding projects.

We look forward to inquiries and future collaborations.

— Warmest, Traffic Team

Item no. 1—Say Hello to Sam Wilde

We are very excited to share that Artist Sam Wilde has joined Traffic for representation in the US. His work is truly inspiring, and we look forward to a fantastic journey together! We discovered Sam’s work through Svenskt Tenn, Sweden’s most coveted destination for furniture, design, fabrics, and lifestyle products, started initially by the design deity and architect Joseph Hoffman, who was also one of the founders of Wiener WerkstätteSam and his eponymous brand, Vespertine, are most known for surface design—incredible work!

There was something more significant to unveil: the extraordinary detail of the artwork and the unique subject matter. Sam is obsessed with nature’s underworld and the state of our earth. Disguised by vibrant design and beauty, you find a dystopian world, and the strange imaginative characters that live within it. We are excited to share this very special work with you.

“The gentle pangolin has sadly become the most illegally trafficked animal of the past decade, with the IUCN listing all eight species under the threat of extinction. The plight of the pangolin is highlighted in this repeating world through a metaphorical game of Snakes & Ladders. With pangolin mothers desperately clambering their way through precarious terrain and across rickety bridges, whilst the next generation scrambles to cling on. At its core this bold world is interconnected by fireworks of foliage exploding out of giant floating fruits, disguising the subversive tone under a carnivalesque atmosphere.”

Precarious Pangolins was created for the rebranding of Palladio Fabrics and was produced on wallpaper as well as printed on fabric.

In keeping with Sam's initiative to stop #BIOappropriation, Sam is giving a contribution from the sales of the wallpaper to the World Land Trust, a charity whose projects support the conservation of the pangolins in their natural habitat.

Item no. 2 —Z’s World

This summer, Traffic had the chance to visit Monsieur Z in his iconic home base in Carqueiranne in the South of France. It was everything it promised to be. Infused with mid-century design and all things that fuel his iconic work. It's a family affair—with his talented sons Corto (who works with top animation studios) and Jim (a design and business entrepreneur) following in their father's footsteps. Virginie, a practicing physician, also manages the vast production of licensing and printed matter.

We had a great time stepping into their footsteps for a few days and are grateful for the good food and wine, and good times!

Together, they are creating a fully immersive house/gallery/store for the public in a neighboring town (to be announced), embodying Monsieur Z's vision featuring architecture, design, art, and lifestyle products he creates. (Stay tuned).

Richard Zielenkiewicz, a.k.a. Monsieur Z, began his career in the early 90s with Wallpaper magazine. His distinct graphic style, inspired by the jet set and retro sensibility of the '50s Hollywood and the French Riviera, has made him one of the most celebrated artists in the field. Item no. 3 Moyo goes to Beirut

We’re getting ready to travel to Beirut for Moyosore Martins’ solo exhibition. We spent most of the summer coordinating the show for him.

Móyòsóré Martins : Now, They Know... is presented by Teal Contemporary in collaboration with Galerie Tanit, opening September 28th. An exhibition catalog was created. LINK.

Shepherding an artist into the world—helping them navigate their way to success is a highly fulfilling experience. Moyo is seeing a rapid yet solid ascent in the world of art. He has gone from an unknown artist to one of the most exciting artists emerging today. In our third year together Moyo had his first New York solo show at Crossing Art, was in his first auction at Sotheby’s in the spring; got a six-page feature in New York Magazine, as well as featured in Forbes, Flaunt magazine, and Artnet News. And he continues to entrance collectors around the world.

You can bid on Moyo painting at the Phillips fall auction (September 27th) LINK. This is the second year Moyo will be in Miami in December for the artfairs. He is a featured artist at Mitochondria Gallery at Scope.
