STEPHANIE PFRIENDER STYLANDER—LOST AND FOUND

STEPHANIE PFRIENDER STYLANDER’s photography exhibition “BIG” was scheduled to open at the Wynwood Building during Art Basel art fair in Miami.  This body of work presented a series of major celebrities and models in life size 5’5″ vertical format. Keith Richards, Heath Ledger and Kate Moss were set to dazzle onlookers with the sheer power of their photographic presence—and it nearly did not happen…. This is a story of one photographer’s determination to face a crisis and turn it around to a triumphant result. The beautifully printed black and white prints were carefully packed in 6 ft. by 4 ft. crates to be shipped by FedEx Freight to Miami.  What wasn’t known was that FedEx accidentally switched the paperwork and placed it on the wrong boxes, which then went on to different destinations. The mix up was discovered upon Stephanie’s arrival in Miami.  Days passed and, as the day of the exhibition neared, it became apparent that the crate was lost and could not be located.  By the time it was finally found in Kentucky, it was obvious that the prints were not going to make it in time to the show in Miami. As Stephanie went for a run to contemplate the fact that she had no work to show, she passed all the old buildings and hotels being demolished along the Miami boardwalk, only to be rebuilt again, and spotted a wall painted with the word “MAGIC” buried within the wreckage. With this inspiration she decided to re-invent the show and reprint the images on paper, with a strong phrase — LOST — running right across the front of the image. After 12 hours at Kinko’s designing and printing all 16 prints on paper, the new version of the show was done and mounted.  There was a new story to tell; one of determination.  It was a huge success and everyone lived happily ever after.  And the FedEx box is finding its’ way back to New York…. Here is Stephanie’s version of the story as told her photos:Stephanie Pfriender Stylander, Christian Roth Eyewear, Christian Roth, sunglasses, photography, Miami, Wynwood, LOST, Celebrity       (Kate Moss’ sunglasses by Christian Roth Eyewear)
